Thoughts to Live By!

We have been trying to clean out and organize our garage lately and I came upon a jar of thoughts/advice that we had been given when we were married. Many of them were the usual ones, but there were two that really meant something to me (not to say the others didn't, these just seemed to really stand out).

One was from my Dad and it said: "Events happen in our lives. We make up stories about those events and what they mean to us. We choose whether they are positive or negative. The key is that everything in this life is a positive event."

That was something my Dad would always teach us...that we are the ones that decide how we will respond to any situation and that everything that happens to us is really for a reason. Even the times when things are extremely difficult and we think we can't make it through, those times help us become the people that we are. They refine and humble us, they teach and bless us. We truly are the ones that decide how we respond to each and every event in our lives!

The next one was from my Mother-in-law, Aloa and it says: "Keep the commandments and always be temple worthy. Teach your children the most important thing in their life is the blessing of the temple in their lives."

That is so important, especially in the time that we live in. There are constant temptations to lure us away from where we want to be, so we definitely need the blessings of the temple to help us along. Also, the fact that we can be sealed together forever as a family is an amazing blessing to have.

I am grateful for my parents and Curt's parents and for all that they have done to teach us and guide us in our lives. I'm glad we decided to clean out garage and get rid of things so I could stumble upon these great thoughts again! What a great find!
